Llano wins see-saw game over Bobcats

The Llano Yellowjackets were able to defeat Comfort in a back-and-forth game Friday night, 37-23.

Comfort slips to 2-2 overall and hosts Bandera Friday for homecoming as they close out non-district play.

Friday’s game had six lead changes before the Yellowjackets pulled away for good in the second half.

Colton Bailey gave Llano the early lead with a 61-yard touchdown run in the first minute of the game for the quick 7-0 advantage.

The Bobcats answered a few minutes later when Hunter Ledlow capped a Comfort drive with a 3-yard TD run. The extra point was blocked and Llano stayed ahead at 7-6.

Comfort took the lead with 29 ticks left in the opening quarter after Topper Sterling ran it in from 6 yards out. The 2-point try failed but the Bobcats held a 12-7 lead.

Llano retook the lead on a Luke Davis 43-yard run and the kick was missed, but Llano had pulled ahead 13-12 with 8:43 remaining in the first half.

The Bobcats went to the trick-play book and Gio Lopez went 54 yards on a reverse to set up the Bobcats at the Llano 1-yard line. Gabe Gonzales ran it in from there and the Bobcats flipped the lead again. The 2-point try didn’t work but Comfort climbed on top at 18-13.

Another lead change came when the Yellowjackets scored on a 2-yard run with 2:45 left until the break and Llano had the 21-18 lead into halftime.

A safety by the Comfort defense and a field goal by Omar Rivera of 26 yards put the Bobcats on top 23-21. But Llano answered with a Trey Mote 40-yard run early in the fourth quarter and the Yellowjackets pulled ahead 29-23 and never trailed again.

Mote added another TD run to cap it at 37-23.
