In honor of the Boerne Greyhounds celebrating 100 years of football in 2024, the Boerne Star will go back through its archives and publish something in every weekend’s issue during the regular season relating to the Boerne High football team from over the years. Back in the Oct. 22, 1942, issue of the Star, an article mentions that the Greyhounds played Bandera. The first paragraph of the story notes that “Charles Currington” (spelled wrong) completed a pass to John Cunningham. It’s the same Charles Curington who has an elementary school named after him here in Boerne. After graduation, Curington left the area and earned two degrees, the latter a master’s from the University of Texas. He started teaching in Boerne in 1951 and was the Greyhounds head football coach for 10 years. He retired from the district in 1987 before passing away in 1992.
