A Boerne holiday: Music, crafts, giving, theater

CELEBRATING THE ARTS

The Boerne Concert Band and Boerne Jazz Band are performing a free Christmas concert for our community on Sunday, Dec. 8. The Boerne Ukuladies will play Christmas carols before the concert.

The Boerne Concert Band, directed by Larry Schmidt, presents Traditions of Christmas, a free Christmas Concert for the community. Starting at 6 p.m. in the Boerne Middle School North auditorium, the Boerne Ukuladies will kick off the evening with Christmas favorites as the audience arrives, followed at 6:30 p.m. by the Boerne Jazz Band with Christmas Jazz selections sure to entertain.

The Boerne Concert Band performs at 7 p.m. with Christmas classics, traditional and contemporary — a full evening of music of the season, with something for everyone.

The concert and jazz bands are made up of musical members from all over the Texas Hill Country and from all walks of life. These include middle, high school and college students, lifetime musicians, military veterans and band directors.

Find them on Facebook: @ BoerneConcertBand, and their website at: www. boerneconcertband.

Dickens on Main 2024 returns Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 29-30. Downtown Boerne transforms into a vintage holiday wonderland, complete with live music, performers, lights, food, kids activities and blowing snow (!!!) along Main Street. Visit the Hill Country Council for the Arts children’s craft booth, sponsored by longtime community friends, H-E-B.

HCCA Season Of Giving: Hill Country Council for the Arts (HCCArts) invites you to join us in this Season of Giving. We have again partnered with Cibolo Creek Quilters Guild and Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries to create our annual Stocking Stuffer program.

We have combined forces to sew 150 custom stockings and stuff them full of goodies for the women served by Kendall County Women’s Shelter and the Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center.

You can sponsor a stocking with a $100 donation and we will do the shopping for you. Let us know how many stockings you would like to sponsor, and send a check to HCCArts, c/o Stocking Stuffer Program, P.O. Box 2024, Boerne, TX 78006; or go to the website, www.hccarts. org, and donate online. All donations are tax deductible.

Contact president@hccarts. org if your company has a bulk donation you would like to donate. We also welcome volunteers to join us on the day we gather to stuff the stockings.

Boerne Community Theatre presents Ebenezer Scrooge’s Big Boerne, Texas Christmas Show, a holiday fundraiser, Dec. 6-15. Written by Gordon Greenberg and Steven Rosen, directed by Jerry Watson, it features Allen Rudolph as Scrooge.

One of the season’s favorite tales is transformed into a gut-busting, fun and family friendly theatrical experience, incorporating the details of our own theater into the script.

Take a spin with Ebenezer, three ghosts, and Tiny Tim, in this music-filled show. Ebenezer Scrooge’s Big Boerne, Texas Christmas Show is a comedy adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Featuring five actors and a minimal set, the performance is a theatrical adaptation of the classic ghost story.
