Rosaria ‘Sara’ Anzollitto

Rosaria ‘Sara’ Anzollitto

Rosaria (Sara) Anzollitto at the age of 93 died April 12, 2025. Sara was born in Sicily, Italy. She immigrated to America in 1949, at the age of 18, with her parents, Anthony and Giacobella Franzi Maimone, and two younger sisters, Antoinette and Josephine.
Coming through Ellis Island, the five of them settled in a modest one-bedroom flat in Manhattan. Sara and her father got jobs in the garment district, cutting fabric and making jackets. Sara became the family seamstress and for many years would alter the clothing of her family.
In May of 1953 Sara married a young soldier, Santo Joseph Anzollitto, in Brooklyn, New York. They had two children, Rose and Joseph. Sara and Santo separated in 1972 and later divorced. Sara is survived by her sisters, who still live in New York and New Jersey; her daughter, Rose (Paul) Certo, of Bowling Green, Kentucky; and her son, Joseph (Diana) Anzollitto, of Boerne, Texas. Sara is survived by her six grandchildren and five — soon to be six — great-grandchildren.
Rose married John Burns and they raised two children, Charles and Jacqueline. Joseph married Diana McGoldrick, with children Peter, Kristen, Andrew and Jonathan. Sara’s great-grandchildren, in birth order, are Caroline, Madiene, Emilia, Jessica, James and soon-to-be John. Sara came to love her Lord Jesus Christ later in life and would frequently talk about the peace He has given her. She loved her family; her greatest pleasure was to be with all of them and serve them.
Sara also spent time tending to her many flowers and plants. Her neighbors and friends would often hear her talking and singing to them, on her patio in the mornings.
Simple things made Sara happy: a strong cup of coffee in the morning; indoor plumbing and hot water coming out of a faucet (she had neither as a child in Sicily); clipping coupons for Burger King so she and her son could get two sausage/ egg croissants, two coffees and two tater tots for $7 for their weekly breakfast; or shopping with her daughter. When she wasn’t visiting family or tending to her plants, she learned to love playing cards and dominos with her new friends at Boerne Livin senior complex.
Sara made a hard transition during the last four years. She had always been a caregiver and now was in need of care. Her wonderful friends and family accommodated her. She spent her final five weeks at Cibolo Creek Rehab & Nursing on hospice.
Seeing her faith become sight couldn’t come soon enough. She now rests in peace and the comfort of her heavenly father as he says, “Well done, my good and faithful daughter.”
We will always remember and love Sara.
