Larry Charles Jones died on June 14, 2025, at his home in Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. After 58 years as an amputee, he ran home into Jesus’ arms.

He was born in Monahans, Texas, on Oct 1, 1938, to L.C. and Irene Jones. He was married for 61 years to Dorothy Little, having married on Aug. 9, 1963, in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lane Jones and Lonnie Jones.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy, and two daughters, Crystal (Marty) Maher and Laurie (Rob) Harder; one brother, L.H. (Connie) Jones; one sister, Lavona (Malcolm) Wilborn; and four grandchildren, Cody Maher, Carson (Kari) Maher, and Brandon and Lauren David; and one great-granddaughter, Elise Maher.

He also leaves behind a large extended family that he cherished dearly.

Larry graduated from Dublin High School in 1957, Texas Tech University in 1964, Thunderbird Graduate School in 1971 and Grand Canyon College in 1972. He earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in international trade. While serving his country in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, in 1967 he was shot in an ambush that resulted in the amputation of his left leg above the knee.

Larry loved Texas and taught Texas history before becoming a media specialist for the deaf in the El Paso Independent School District for 31 years.

He was the “original Mac computer guy” and was selftaught on any and all things Apple before they became popular. Recently, he had a gunsmith business, Gunwurkz, in Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas.

Grandpa Jones was a loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather. He was always taking his grandchildren on many “educational” trips and teaching them about guns, computers and how to drive. He was always willing to teach and explain.

He was active in every church he attended during his life. In El Paso, he was a director in the church video ministry. Recently, he attended Oak Hills Church in San Antonio.
