The boys and girls basketball teams from Great Hearts Western Hills Spartans visited Boerne’s Crestmont Christian Prep last Friday for a rematch of Crestmont’s visit to Great Hearts in November.
It was a good night as the Crestmont teams both picked up wins.
Crestmont’s last week of the regular season started on Tuesday, when the Warriors hosted Gloria Deo Academy from Bulverde. The final home game of the season was this past Thursday at home against McCauley Christian Academy.
Varsity Girls
Crestmont’s Lady Warriors and the Lady Spartans waged a back-and-forth battle in the first half. Crestmont went up 6-2 at the end of the first, only for the Spartans to score 10 points in the second to go up over the Warriors 12-11.
The Lady Warriors came out hot in the third quarter and outscored the Spartans, 15-4, led by Paige Hubbard.
Hubbard scored 9 points in the third, including a 3-pointer. Reese Ford and Emmalyn Stoess each added a pair, and Lyla Dunkelberger hit long 2-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer.
The Lady Warriors stayed strong and closed out the game with a 31-22 win over the Spartans.
Hubbard finished with 15 points, Kristie Keller grabbed 9 rebounds, Savannah Head added 4 points and 8 rebounds and Ford tallied 4 points and 6 rebounds. The Lady Warriors are 4-7 this season.
Varsity Boys
Crestmont’s boys team got off to a strong start against the Spartans, going up 15-0 in the first and never looked back, winning 43-27.
The Warriors had another solid team effort, pulling down 44 team rebounds, dishing out 10 assists and swiping the ball for 15 steals for the evening.
The back court was dynamic with Peyton Blyth logging 19 points and 5 steals, while Ezra Dronca had 4 assists with 9 rebounds.
The front court was powered by Thane Jonas with 12 points and Colten Reibel adding 10 rebounds. Luke Oliver contributed with a 10-point and 14-rebound, double-double game as the Warriors moved to 9-7 this season.
