Geneva softball returns the favor and run rules Schertz John Paul II

One run-rule victory deserves another.

At least that seems to be the case when the Schertz John Paul II and Geneva School of Boerne softball teams clashed this year.

In their first district meeting, the Guardians run ruled the Eagles (13-3), to hand them their only loss of the season so far, but last Friday it was Geneva’s turn to kick in the mercy rule.

Geneva hosted the Guardians in Boerne last Friday and returned the favor, and ironically, it was by the same score, 13-3.

Geneva is 6-1 and played at Holy Cross Monday as they continued district action.

The Eagles were up 2-0 in the first and it stayed there until the third inning when Geneva added 4 more runs, thanks in part to a Maegan Riebel home run, and the lead was 6-0.

Geneva tallied 6 runs in the fourth frame and went up 12-0 before JP II could get on the board. The Guardians had a good at bat in the top of the fifth and scored 3 runs to make it 12-3, but the Eagles closed it out with a run in the bottom of the fifth to end it at 13-3.

Geneva knocked out 14 hits and didn’t commit an error.

Riebel finished 2 for 4 at the plate, including the homer and had 3 RBI in the game. Kate Friesenhahn went 2 for 3 and had 2 RBI, while Madeline Egbert was 3 for 3, with 2 doubles.

Egbert picked up the win from the circle and improved her record to 4-1.
