Comfort was on the road last Friday to face the Ingram baseball team, and after playing the Warriors to within a run at home in their previous game, the Bobcats were hoping to pick up a win in Ingram and split the series.
It didn’t work out that way after the Warriors posted a 10-4 victory over Comfort to earn the sweep.
The Bobcats are 2-2 in district and 7-9 overall. Comfort started a series with Brady this week and visited the Bulldogs Monday and host Brady Friday.
Ingram led from start to finish and was up 1-0 in the first and scored 5 runs in the second for the 6-0 lead before Comfort could get on the board.
In the third, Mason Matter doubled and advanced to third on a ground out. Matter scored after the next Comfort batter reached on an error by the Ingram shortstop to make it 6-1.
The Warriors got the run back in the bottom half of the frame and then scored another run in the fourth to pull ahead, 8-1.
Comfort scored again in the top of the fifth after Brooks Davis walked and later scored on a well-hit ball by Noah Bohnert, and it was 8-2.
Ingram responded with 2 runs in the bottom half of the fifth and took a 10-2 lead into the last inning.
Comfort made a late push in the top of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough. A walk and single put two Bobcats on base.
A ground out scored a runner from third and a wild pitch allowed Comfort to bring in another run to trim the lead to 10-4 but there were two outs at that point.
Ingram pitcher Aiden Rendon then struck out the next batter to end it.
Comfort finished with 6 hits in the game that came from six different batters, with three of those doubles. Evan Valadez, Judd Lozano and Matter all doubled, with Matter scoring a run.
Davis hit a single, took 2 walks, picked up an RBI and scored twice, Gunner Carpenter singled, walked and scored, while Rhyder George singled.
Zach Jones started on the hill and went 4 innings, yielded 8 hits, 6 earned runs, 3 walks and fanned 4.
Owen Schulze tossed the final 2 frames and gave up 3 hits, no earned runs or walks and sat down a batter.
