Child-endangerment defendant looking at deportation

BOERNE — The Guatemalan father of a girl found in a rundown trailer with roaches on her body faces deportation after he serves a 21-month sentence on charges of abandoning and endangering a child.

Jose Ramiro Monterroso Vasquez was sentenced April 10 after pleading guilty to the child-endangerment charges before Judge Kirsten Cohoon in the 451st District Court.

Officials said Vasquez, who hails from Guatemala, will be released to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents once he completes his time behind bars.

The case began unfolding Aug. 18, 2024, when Boerne police investigating a disturbance arrived at the Shady Rest trailer park in the 100 block of Clear Sky.

Officers searching the residence for weapons suspected of being involved in the incident found the defendant’s 8-year-old daughter living under severely neglectful conditions, according to investigators.

Officers said they saw roaches and other insects on the girl and in her bedding.

In addition to a lack of running water, the trailer had faulty electrical wiring and unsanitary conditions, including rotten food and human waste. Officers also observed exposed wires and holes in the floors and walls.

The girl initially was placed in the care of a protective adult before being released to family members.

City and Kendall County officials later deemed the trailer uninhabitable, leading to its removal.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Andrew Fields.
