The Geneva School of Boerne baseball team swept Corpus Christi Incarnate Word Tuesday in a doubleheader and in the process claimed this year’s district title.
Geneva won both games via the run rule in Corpus Christi and took the first game in six innings, 13-3, and then rolled in Game 2 by a score of 12-2 in five innings on the final day of district action.
The Eagles are 9-2 overall and will begin the playoffs soon.
Game 1 Geneva knocked out 14 hits and posted a 13-3 win. The Eagles had a fast start and scored 6 in the first, 2 in the second, 3 in the third and finished it off with 2 in the sixth.
Bryce Hanover, Gray Bruner and Rooster Jons all doubled for Geneva. Bruner added 2 doubles, picked up 2 RBI and scored 3 runs, while Jons added a single to his double and picked up 2 RBI.
Chase Doran hit 3 singles and scored 3 runs and TJ Cross tallied 2 hits, scored 2 runs and collected 2 RBI, while Brady Chandler scored 2 runs.
Hanover went 5.1 innings on the hill and scattered 5 hits, gave up 3 earned runs, 1 walk and struck out 8.
Doran finished up on the mound and struck out the two batters he faced.
Game 2
Another fast start helped Geneva score 4 runs in the first, followed by a single run in the fourth before closing it out with a strong fifth inning by scoring 7 runs to end it with a 12-2 mercy rule win.
The Eagles banged out 11 hits, four of them doubles from Bryce Hanover, Colton Lutz, Gray Bruner and Rooster Jons.
Bruner also singled, drove in a run and scored twice, Hanover plated 2 runs, while Jons added a single to his double and scored 2 runs.
Harris Priesmeyer slapped out 2 singles and scored twice.
The Eagles were patient at the plate and took 9 walks.
Chase Doran went all 5 innings on the bump and yielded 4 hits, 1 earned run, 3 walks and fanned 4.
