Bands set to play ‘Music On The Mile’ Saturday

Bands set to play ‘Music On The Mile’ Saturday

Nearly 30 bands and performers will take to 11 stages Saturday in the second rendition of Music On The Mile.

Organizer Nancy Holekamp said venue owners and musicians both were eager to participate. Musicians are set to step on stages up and down Main Street starting at 10 a.m. and lasting to midnight at select locations.

“This just started out where some of these guys could get some local exposure,” Holekamp said. “Boerne already has a vibrant music scene on the weekends, so hopefully this carries that out a bit.” Eleven venues — Cibolo Creek Brewing, Tusculum Brewing, Free Roam Brewing, 259 Brantley’s Bistro & Bar, Pure Country BBQ, Salvador Dobbs, Lost Oak Cellars, Black Rifle Coffee, The Shoppes at 222, 248 N. Main St. Chateau, and the Main Plaza gazebo — will be host to up to 30 musical acts, playing anywhere from half-hour to threehour stints.

“They just want a place to play, that’s all they want. They want to play and make people happy,” Holekamp said.

“Right now, we’re trying to keep it where it supports the local small businesses, another event that brings people into their establishments,” she added.

Last year, Music on the Mile featured 20-plus bands in 10 venues, so the event is “on the grow,” she added.

“Each year, we would like to get a couple more people to participate, a few more acts and a few more venues,” she said.

Hunter Billingsley gets the day started with a set at 10 a.m. at Black Rifle Coffee on Main, with Javi Benevidez and Trey Eavvenson playing from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Shoppes at 222 as well.

Other acts include Johnny Kigel & Pertnears, the Boerne Jazz Band, Acoustic 57, Mattie Morris, Sonic Waves, Bynnan Bex, Ryan Jones, Noah Kurtis, John David, Matthew McDaniel, Jose Baca, Dickie Kaiser, Jonas Brand, Bill Goodge, Friends in Harmony, Champion High School orchestra students, Harmony Belles, the Boerne Village Band, Don’t Quit Your Day Job, Elle Townley, Caleb Young, Covenants Creek, Dean Seltzer, Beckham Young, Scarlett Sanford and Cassidy Egli.

Holekamp said she hopes to get a Music on the Mile committee appointed for next year, to be able to expand in both venues and participating bands.
