15 BISD boys soccer players named all-district

THE BOERNE STAR

A total of 15 Boerne ISD boys soccer players – 10 from Boerne High and 5 from Boerne Champion – earned all-district honors for their play during the 2025 season.

Two Greyhounds earned superlative awards after junior Shae Gonzales was named Co-Midfielder of the Year and freshman JP Santa Maria was voted Co-Newcomer of the Year.

Also, for the Greyhounds, senior Felix Theiss, sophomore Kolton Fischer and senior Austin Vecino were named to the 26-5A first team.

Senior Liam Griffiths and senior Ben Niedecken were picked for the second team and senior Hudson Stevens, junior Brody Bowen and junior Carsten Bain were named honorable mention.

For the Chargers, senior Bentley McCool was Champion’s only first-team pick, while senior Nico Linaje was the only Charger that landed on the 26-5A second team.

Senior Joey Toczynski, senior Caleb Dehart and senior Nathan Bell were named honorable mention.

In 26-5A action, Champion went 4-8-4 in district and finished 4-12-5 overall, while the Greyhounds were second in 26-5A and went 12-3-1 in district and 14-5-1 overall.

Boerne High made the postseason and faced Liberty Hill in the first round of the 5A-DII playoffs. The evenly matched teams were tied 2-2 at the end of regulation and overtime to send it to a shootout where the Panthers were perfect and went 5 for 5 on penalty kicks to win it.

BHS missed its first kick and was eventually trailing 4-3 through four kicks. The Panthers made their fifth penalty kick for the 5-3 advantage, which meant the Greyhounds didn’t need to take their fifth kick since they were trailing by two goals with one kick left.

It was a tough loss for the Hounds team which was leading 2-1 until the Panthers were awarded a penalty kick with 41 seconds left in regulation to tie it and basically send it to overtime where neither team scored, so it went to penalty kicks.

This marked the first time in more than 10 years that the two Boerne ISD soccer teams were in the same district and played against each other.

The Champion boys had never lost to Boerne High until this year when the Greyhounds took both their 26-5A matches.
