BOERNE — Champion High School students Annabella Parker and Jace Smith graduated from Northwest Vista Colleges with associate’s degrees in applied science — before they even received their high school diplomas from Champion.

The opportunity to fast-track and receive college credits before they’re legally adults is part of the Boerne Independent School District (BISD) Pathways in Technology Early College High School (PTECH) program.

The P-TECH Cybersecurity program, launched in 2022, and the P-TECH Health Sciences program, introduced in 2024, have a combined enrollment of more than 200 students for the 2024–25 school year.

Both focus areas are in high demand, offering students valuable and relevant career pathways.

Dr. Kristin Craft, Boerne ISD superintendent, attended the ceremony in San Antonio and shared how transformative P-TECH can be for students who have a clear vision of what they want to do in life.

“So many of our students have passions at early ages,” Craft said. “Many are able to pursue opportunities to explore those through CTE pathways and extracurriculars, but for those who are interested in taking a leap forward when it comes to their post-high school education, PTECH provides invaluable advantages – and saves students and families both time and money.

In addition to their cybersecurity courses through Northwest Vista and CHS, Parker and Smith have also had internships with the district’s technology team.

In the 2023-24 school year, students across Boerne ISD earned a significant amount of college credits through Advanced Placement courses, CTE certifications, and now P-TECH opportunities.

Boerne Chief Instructional Officer Larissa Flores said, “From 2023-24, families in Boerne saved over $560,000 because of the educational opportunities their students took advantage of while in high school. These innovative approaches are part of what helps Boerne ISD stay an A-rated district.”

Boerne ISD has been an A-rated district for the past four years, and when 2023 TEA ratings were recently released, BISD was the only school district in the San Antonio area to receive top marks.

Boerne ISD is a top-rated public school district serving more than 11,150 students across Kendall and Bexar counties. With a reputation for academic excellence, innovative programs, and community involvement, BISD is committed to empowering all students to reach their full potential in a rapidly changing world.
