Drought-ravaged Kendall County received a healthy dose of rain Monday, with rain gauges across the county showing anywhere from 1.5 to 3.25 inches from the deluge.
While cloud cover and intermittent sprinkles kept the heat away from the morning’s Memorial Day events, the skies let loose later that night, providing desperately needed precipitation that brought Cibolo Creek up to a healthy state and aided in filling some smaller streams and private wells.
While far from a droughtbreaker, the downpour was a welcome relief for the area. Three personal rain gauge readings came in at 1.86, 2.5 and 3.25 inches, while the city of Boerne’s official gauge at Esser and Herff roads, came in at 2.5 inches, according to Chris Shadrock, Boerne communications director.
He said a power outage at 12:30 Tuesday morning left 30 customers along East Blanco Road, in the Park Place-Medical Drive area, without power for about 75 minutes, before being fully restored.
Brady Constantine, Kendall County fire marshal, said four county volunteer fire departments sent him information on the rain they received. Sisterdale VFD received 1.55 inches, Waring VFD reported 2 inches, the Kendalia station showed 1.72 inches and Bergheim topped county reports, at 2.5 inches.
The weather forecast shows anywhere from 30-60 percent chance of rain the rest of the week, leaving many to hope the drought-easing rain on Monday is not the last they see this month.
