HED: Boerne ISD drops aquatics center contrctor
The Boerne Independent School District severed its contract with Tegrity Contractors last week, opting to sign on with another firm to finish out its long-delayed Aquatics Learning Center.
To ensure completion of the Aquatics Learning Center, Boerne ISD has made the strategic decision to transition to a new general contractor.
This change comes after careful review and ongoing evaluation of the project's progress and delivery timeline, the district said in a press release Monday.
“Ultimately, we determined that a change was necessary to meet our commitment to quality and efficiency,” Dr. Kristin Craft, Boerne ISD superintendent, said. “Our top priority is delivering a state-of-the-art aquatics facility that serves the needs of our students and the Boerne community.
“We’re confident the new contractor shares that vision and will supply the focus and capability needed to bring the project back on track,” Craft added.
Boerne ISD signed on with Tegrity Contractors Inc. in the summer of 2023, following the 2022 bond election passage that included $8.7 million to build the complex on land near Champion High School and Cibolo Creek Elementary School.
A completion date of August 2024 was never realized, and a renewed “substantial completion” date of May 28, agreed upon by the district and Tegrity officials during a May 7 school board meeting, failed to happen.
The district has not released the name of the new contractor until the contract review is finalized.
“Boerne ISD is actively working with the new contractor to review and update the construction timeline for the project,” Monday’s release stated.
The city of Boerne offered to allow the school district’s swimming, diving and water polo team members to use its facilities while construction continues on the Aquatics Learning Center.
The district, in the release, said it looks forward to the opening of the Aquatics Learning Center and will set a date for ribbon-cutting in the near future.
