Champion grad played key role in Roadrunners historic season
UTSA’s historic baseball season came to an end last weekend after the Roadrunners were defeated in the NCAA’s Super Regionals by host UCLA.
The Bruins swept the Roadrunners at Jackie Robinson Field in Los Angeles in a best-of-three series to advance to the College World Series. The Bruins beat the Birds, 7-0 and 5-2, to end the UTSA season with a record of 47-15.
The Roadrunners scored the first two runs of Game 1 against the Bruins and held an early lead at 2-0 but didn’t score another run for the rest of the series.
UTSA’s 47 wins this season ties for the second most in American Athletic Conference history.
Boerne Champion graduate Jordan Ballin played a key role in UTSA’s historic season after the freshman earned a starting spot this year at second base.
Ballin finished the year with a .541 on base percentage and batted .333 this year. His .541 on OBP is second in the nation at the Division I level heading into the College World Series.
The Roadrunners received an at-large bid to the NCAA Austin Regional tournament where they ended up defeating Kansas State to open the event.
UTSA went on to sweep host University of Texas (9-7, 7-4) to advance to their first super regional tournament in program history to face UCLA.
