A total of 19 Boerne ISD baseball players earned 26-5A All-District recognition for their performances during the 2025 season.
Both the Chargers and Greyhounds had one player receive a superlative award after Champion sophomore Cal Isley was named the 26-5A Newcomer, while Greyhound senior Brooks Perez was voted the Co-Offensive MVP.
Of the 19 BISD players honored, 12 were from Champion with one superlative, five on the first team, two on the second and four more were honorable mention.
The Greyhounds had seven players recognized, one superlative, two on the first team, one on the second team and three more were honorable mention.
Besides Isley being named the district’s Newcomer, first-team selections for the Chargers were sophomore outfielder Owen Kuhl, senior first baseman Aidan Smith, junior shortstop Garland Whitehead, senior pitcher AJ Grizzaffi and junior designated hitter Jaedyn Yamaguchi.
Kuhl, Smith and Yamaguchi were unanimous selections as voted upon by the 26-5A coaches.
Besides Brooks Perez being named the Co-Offensive MVP, first-team picks for the Greyhounds include senior outfielder Dylan Perez and junior utility player Jackson Grimes. Dylan Perez was also a unanimous pick.
Only three BISD players made the district’s second team. Champion senior catcher Sam Miller, Boerne High senior pitcher Campbell Jackson and Boerne Champion senior pitcher Sawyer Smith were named to the second team.
Four more Chargers, senior Andrew Harrison, senior Pearce Kelly, junior Austin Garritano and senior Jackson Melanson were recognized as honorable mention.
For the Greyhounds, senior Walker Hill, senior Hudson McNew and junior Jake Perez all landed on the honorable mention squad.
There were a lot of firsts for the BISD teams this year thanks to Boerne High becoming a 5A school for the first time. The Chargers and Greyhounds competed against each other and were also in the same district for the first time in baseball.
The two BISD baseball squads split their two games this year, and each won at home by one run before capacity crowds.
BHS won their first-ever meeting 1-0 in eight innings at Greyhound Field after seven scoreless innings.
The Chargers took their second meeting later that week on their home field, 2-1, to earn the split.
The Greyhounds missed out on a playoff spot this year after they went 9-7 in district and finished fifth, one spot away from postseason play. BHS ended the season at 17-9 overall.
Champion finished as co-district champs with New Braunfels at 12-4 in 26-5A.
The Chargers advanced four rounds deep into the playoffs and swept Cedar Park to open the postseason. Up next, they beat MacArthur in the second round after dropping the first game.
Champion then swept Mission Sharyland down in Corpus Christi before they were eliminated by Liberty Hill in two games in the fourth round. The Chargers played their final game of the season and had graduation the same day.
Champion was one win away from hitting 30 wins this year after they went 29-10 overall.
