Boerne Champion’s Aidan Smith was recently named to the Texas High School Coaches Association 5A Super Elite Baseball Team.
Only 15 baseball players from around the state in each classification – 1A through 6A - earn that distinction.
Smith, who just graduated from Champion, ended his high senior year with a .396 batting average and had a .516 on base percentage. He had 38 hits, including 5 doubles, 2 triples, a home run and 3 stolen bases. Smith scored 17 runs and picked up 38 RBI.
The multi-talented Smith also pitched for the Chargers and went 4-2 this year on the mound and finished with a 2.41 earned run average.
Smith will continue his academic and baseball career at Wartburg College, a Division III school in Waverly, Iowa.
Each UIL classification from 1A to 6A has a Super Elite Baseball Team that is selected by the Super Elite Teams (SET) committees. To be considered, an athlete must be a student of good moral character, on the varsity, been a member of the team in good standing at the time of nomination, excelled as an elite member in their respective sport and their coach must be a THSCA member.
Smith, who was also named all-state by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association, helped the Charger baseball team advance to the fourth round of the 5A baseball playoffs this past spring.
