COMFORT VFD, COMFORT AREA FOUNDATION RECEIVE SIZABLE DONOR CHECKS

COMFORT VFD, COMFORT AREA FOUNDATION RECEIVE SIZABLE DONOR CHECKS

The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country announced Tuesday it had dispersed a second round of the more than $60 million raised in flood relief since the devastating July 4 Guadalupe River flood.

Comfort Volunteer Fire Department and the Comfort Area Foundation are among the 35 recipient agencies of the $4.4 million that the foundation released on Tuesday, its second disbursement of funds, the first on July 11 of $5 million in emergency grants.

The foundation went viral to outline the funds being distributed as well as listing the agencies receiving the financial contributions.

The Comfort Area Foundation received $350,000 — $100,000 for financial assistance for individuals and families, according to its website, and another $250,000 to help businesses in the area begin the recovery process.

The Comfort Volunteer Fire Department received a $50,000 check “to support general operations and greatest needs.”

The organization said working with vetted nonprofits already on the ground helps it to move funds to the individuals and families, local businesses, first responders and crisis response efforts that need it the most.

“We’re committed to regular updates on funds raised and disbursed, working with experienced local partners to ensure accountability and careful stewardship,” the organization stated on its website.

But there’s much more work to be done. Th Foundation urges people to consider monetary donations at this time.

“The most effective way is to donate online. The donations stay local and go directly to relief efforts.” Donors can make a direct donation to: https://tinyurl.com/KerrFloodRelief

For people wishing to volunteer their time in searches, clean-up, and in service to the thousands still searching and working, they are urged to contact: https://kerrtogether.com/

Calls placed to Comfort VFD and Comfort Area Foundation representatives had not been returned by deadline.

But on its Facebook page, the Comfort VFD thanked all individuals who have given relief during the past three weeks.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you from all of us at the Comfort Volunteer Fire Department, not only to our local community, but also to the surrounding areas and even those from across the world who have shown us love and support” they stated. “In the wake of this devastating tragedy, you stepped up in ways we could never have imagined.”

The page outlines how it intends to use any financial contributions it receives.

“All monetary donations are going directly into our department’s account,” it said, “and will be used to improve our fire station, enhance our flood warning systems, provide advanced training for flood and swift water rescue teams, and purchase additional gear, equipment and communication tools.”

The department said these improvements will help them become more prepared to respond to future emergencies and continue to provide the community with the highest level of care possible.

“Most importantly, we continue to pray daily for the families and victims of this tragedy,” the department stated. “Not a day goes by without us thinking of them. They are forever in our hearts.”
