Seven BISD baseball players named all-state by Texas Sports Writers

Seven Boerne ISD baseball players were named All-State by the Texas Sports Writers Association after their play during the 2025 spring season.

Five of the all-state players were from Champion and two were from Boerne High, with both Greyhounds landing on the first team.

Newspaper media members from around the state voted on the teams.

Boerne High

Dylan Perez and Brooks Perez were the only Greyhounds named all-state by the TSWA members, and the cousins made it on the first team.

Both played in the outfield and just wrapped up their senior seasons for the Greyhounds and will play in college.

Dylan has signed with Baylor University and batted .405 for the Greyhounds and had a .505 on base percentage. He hit 5 triples, 4 doubles, drove in 27 runs and scored 28 runs.

Dylan was also a Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association First-Team selection.

Brooks hit .519, scored 34 runs, hit 4 home runs, 3 triples, 14 doubles, stole 7 bases and drove in 22 runs. He also was named a Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Elite All-Star and played in their All-Star game in June.

Brooks will play at Duke University.

Boerne Champion

Two Chargers, Owen Kuhl and Jaedyn Yamaguchi, were both named to the TSWA second team.

Kuhl, who spent most of his time in the outfield for the Chargers, made it as a relief pitcher after the sophomore finished the year with a 1.31 earned run average.

Kuhl had 3 saves, two in the postseason, and picked up two wins as well.

Yamaguchi wrapped up his junior year with a .396 batting average. He hit 3 homers, legged out a triple, banged out 12 doubles, scored 20 runs, swiped a base and took 20 walks.

He finished with a .508 on base percentage and was also named First-Team All-State by the THSBCA.

Three other Chargers, AJ Grizzaffi, Aidan Smith and Garland Whitehead, were all named honorable mention by the TSWA.

Grizzaffi, who just graduated, finished the year as an HM pitcher with a 1.16 earned run average and posted a 6-1 record. He had one save, struck out 67 batters and only walked 14.

Grizzaffi was one walk away from throwing a perfect game against Wagner and just announced on his X page that he has committed to McLennan Community College in Waco.

Aidan Smith also landed on the honorable mention squad after the first baseman hit .396, had an on-base percentage of .513 and also finished with a slugging percentage of .506.

Smith hit a home run, 2 triples, 5 doubles, scored 16 runs, took 24 walks and stole 3 bases. He was a second-team all-state selection by the THSCA and will continue his career at Wartburg College in Iowa.

Whitehead wrapped up his junior season with a batting average of .343, scored 36 runs, hit 3 doubles, 3 triples, stole 14 bases and collected 23 RBI.

He recorded a .461 on-base percentage, had a .486 slugging percentage and finished with a fielding percentage of .964 for the Chargers team that went four rounds deep into the playoffs.
