Annual predictions from Texas Football magazine

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine is out and inside are its annual predictions for each district in the upcoming 2025 season.

According to the magazine, three of the four 11-man football teams in Kendall County will make the playoffs.

Here’s a look at what it says about Boerne Champion, Boerne High, Comfort High and Geneva School of Boerne: Boerne Champion

Champion is picked to finish fourth in District 13-5A DI behind the defending state champs Smithson Valley Rangers, followed by Pieper, the only team that beat Smithson Valley in district action last year, and then New Braunfels.

Champion is listed as the fourth-place team in the rugged district, ahead of Seguin, Wagner, Victoria East and MacArthur.

“The Chargers are looking to get back to the playoffs after missing them for the second time in three seasons,” the magazine reads. “Although the Chargers have a lot of roles to fill, (head coach Blane) Ellis believes the Chargers will be in the running for a playoff spot.”

Boerne High

The magazine has the Greyhounds finishing second in District 13-5A DI.

Alamo Heights is picked to win the league, ahead of Boerne, Victoria West and Kerrville Tivy. After that, it’s Veterans Memorial, Harlandale and McCollum.

Former BHS assistant coach David Wilkinson has taken the reins at McCollum, and the Cowboys play the Hounds in Boerne on Oct. 30.

The Greyhounds have a new head coach of their own and are now led by Brett Sawyer. The magazine notes that it should be a smooth transition.

“Although the Greyhounds usher in a new coaching era, there is not going to be much change. Sawyer enters his first season as head coach after serving as the Greyhounds defensive coordinator under Che Hendrix for seven seasons,” the magazine states. “Sawyer was promoted after Hendrix accepted a job as an analyst with the Arkansas Razorbacks. Sawyer takes over a program that advanced to the state semifinals in its first season in Class 5A.”

Comfort High

There are five teams in District 13-3A DII, but only four teams advance to the playoffs in each district, and the magazine has the Bobcats on the outside looking in for 2025.

Comfort is picked to finish fifth and out of the mix, but the magazine also notes that the Bobcats have a chance to join the postseason party under Coach Jay Rieken.

“A third year in Rieken’s system should help an experienced group of Bobcats challenge for a playoff spot.”

Geneva School of Boerne

Geneva is a private school and is governed by the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools, which the magazine also covers.

The Eagles are picked to finish second under new head coach Bob Rosenstiel.

“New coach Rosenstiel, an NFL and XFL veteran, takes over a program with plenty of pedigree and no shortage of high-end talent,” it reads. “A young team played plenty of dues last season and it may pay off in 2025.”

Holy Cross is predicted to win the five-team district, followed by Geneva, New Braunfels Christian, Austin Hill Country and Schertz John Paul II. Four of them in the five-team league will advance to the playoffs.
