Bob Rosenstiel enters his first season as head coach for the Geneva School of Boerne football team. Rosenstiel had been an assistant for the last several years with the Eagles and was promoted to the top spot when Grant Gaston left.
So far, Rosenstiel said everything has gone well as they prepare for the new season. They’ve scrimmaged twice at home and open 2025 on the road in San Antonio against SACS.
“We’re moving right along, and I think we’re ahead of where I thought we would be at this point,” he said. “The kids are working hard.”
The first-year head coach with NFL and XFL playing experience, said a big part of their success this year will be determined by how their line performs on both sides of the ball.
“We’ve got to see if our offensive and defensive line can step up to the challenge,” he said. “We’re going to try and get our run game going this year.”
The Eagles are picked to finish second in their district behind Holy Cross. Also in their district is New Braunfels Christian Academy, Austin Hill Country and Schertz John Paul II.
Holy Cross played for the state title last year and despite graduating seven starters on offense and eight on defense, the Knights are picked to win the district again and Rosenstiel said he understands why.
“Most of it goes off the year before, it’s a fair assessment off whatever information they have,” he said. “Holy Cross is young, but they have good talent and are a big physical team.”
Players to watch
Texas Football magazine has Brady Chandler, Reid Wilson, Noah Brunsvold, Reid Aderholt, Caleb Quitadamo, Bryce Hanover, Koen Huebner, Parker Eiland and Ian Jayroe as players to watch.
Chandler is a do-everything type of athlete and had 1,085 yards and 16 TDs last year as a receiver, while Quitadamo returns to the field as the starting quarterback after missing part of last season with an injury.
“(Quitadamo) is still trying to feel his way back, it’s a process,” the coach said. “It’s going to take time, but he played 7 on 7 with us, and he’ll be fine.”
The Star will be at Geneva’s opener.
