CELEBRATING THE ARTS

Live theater highlights the unique magic of a shared experience, developing a special connection of audience to the players.

• Boerne Community Theatre presents “Don’t Talk to the Actors,” by Tom Dudzick and directed by BCT’s Keisha McFerrin, through Sept. 14. Reserve your tickets now by calling the box office 830-2499166 or by visiting: www. boernetheatre.org. The theater is located at 907 E. Blanco Road in Boerne.

The story centers on Jerry Przpezniak, a fledgling playwright from Buffalo, and his fiancee, who are thrust into the glamorous but cutthroat world of New York theater when Jerry’s play is optioned for Broadway.

They encounter a cast and crew filled with larger-thanlife personalities and theatrical nightmares rather than dreams. The plot involves manipulation, diva-like behavior, and general chaos as everyone tries to get what they want, resulting in a hilarious and unpredictable journey.

In a word, the play satirizes the process of bringing a new play to Broadway, highlighting the comedic potential in the clash between idealism and reality.

Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:30 p.m. on Sundays.

• S.T.A.G.E., Inc. presents Neil Simon’s “The Sunshine Boys,” directed by Robin Cunningham, opening Oct. 2 and running through Oct. 19.

“The Sunshine Boys” is a classic comedy play that premiered on Broadway in 1972 and was later adapted into a successful film in 1975 starring George Burns and Walter Matthau.

The play revolves around the relationship between two aging comedians, Al Lewis and Willie Clark, who were once a famous comedy duo known as the Sunshine Boys.

However, after 40 plus years of performing together, their partnership ends acrimoniously. A dozen years later, a young theater agent, who happens to be Willie’s nephew, tries to bring the two together for a comedy television special. They reluctantly agree to perform one last time together.

This play offers a poignant reflection on the complexities of relationships and the challenges of reconciling the past with the present.
