When you think of health inspections, you often equate it to a restaurant, but that’s not always the case.

In the month of August, several Kendall County schools went through inspections conducted by Kendall County Health Inspector David Sueltenfuss, to ensure the safety of their cafeterias. Turns out, the schools were ready for him, and each passed with flying colors.

First up is Comfort Elementary, located at 605 Third St. in Comfort. Sueltenfuss worked with Food Service Director Suzette Murie onsite to make some minor corrections. Temperatures for a serving of chicken fajitas were found to be below the required 135F.

The staff responded quickly and reheated the pan up to 165F. One drawer in the serving area was found to be unclean and not in good repair and has since been corrected.

Overall, Comfort Elementary earned a solid A with a score of 93.

Sueltenfuss moved over to Comfort Middle School, at 216 High St. Food Service Director Debbie Esquivel didn’t have a chance to correct any deficiencies — because there were none. Comfort Middle School received the most coveted perfect score of 100. Congrats!

Moving into Boerne, Cibolo Creek Elementary School at 300 Herff Ranch Road was next. Everything was found to be in compliance, with no need for onsite corrections. Cibolo Creek Elementary School earned a well-deserved score of 100.

Another elementary school was inspected, Curington Elementary, at 601 Adler Road.

Two corrections needed to be made onsite, including the need for raised temperatures for the dishwasher. The water temperature cannot be below 180F.

The other correction needed was to discard unused equipment. Sueltenfuss found a nonworking cooler that had not been operating for over a year on the property. Corrections were made and Curington Elementary came out with an admirable score of 96.

Last but certainly not least, Boerne High School, at 1 Greyhound Lane. Only two points were taken off, for warmers not having internal thermometers. The error was remedied onsite, and Sueltenfuss granted them a high score of 98.

Overall, the schools seemed prepared for their inspections and came out with great scores. Stay tuned for more health inspections.
