Ten acts will take the stage Saturday as contestants in the ninth annual “Hill Country’s Got Talent” contest in hopes of impressing the star-studded judges’ panel and leaving $500 richer.
Christine Crowley, executive director of the Boerne Community Theatre, said tickets are still available for the 7 p.m. program, the BCT’s primary fundraiser for the year. The evening includes silent and live auctions, and wine, whiskey and “fork” pulls to make for a busy and entertaining evening at the Jones Event Center.
“ This air- conditioned venue will host a fun evening of local talent vying for cash prizes and being judged by Cheryl Ladd, of ‘Charlie’s Angels’ fame, Cheryl Tanner, a local actress, and Jonathan Breck of ‘Jeepers Creepers’ fame,” Crowley said.
The acts landing first place in the adult and youth performance categories will receive $500. The second-place talent in each category gets $250 while third place walks way with $100.
Dinner is being catered by The Hungry Horse. Philip Chancellor, a professional emcee-magician-mentalist, is running the show as emcee.
While previous years have included comedians, magicians, ventriloquists and dance troupes, this year’s competition is primarily musical, Crowley said.
The 10 acts selected to compete after August’s auditions are: Adeline Loredo, Elizabeth McCammon, Kenzie McCammon, Marlowe Adair, Jessai Begay, Hayley Kovats, Blackground Music (Eric and Sarah Schwarz), Donald Kearney, Sabrina Begay and Hope Arise Worship.
The judges, Crowley said, “have a whole matrix of things they are looking at; presentation, appropriateness, and skill or talent level, of course,” she said.
Ladd, who played Kris Monroe on TV’s “Charlie’s Angels” from 1977-1981, is a Boerne area resident who actually judged the inaugural “Got Talent” contest.
Actor Breck also lives in the area, Crowley said. “His kids have been to our drama camps, so he agreed to join us,” she added.
New to the event — being held at the Jones Event Center, 43360 Interstate 10 West, off exit 533 toward Comfort — is the “fork pull.” Many attendees may be familiar with wine or whiskey pulls, but she explained how the “fork pull” works.
There will be silver forks with numbers on them. “They pull the fork of their choice; The number that’s attached to the fork matches up with an envelope that contains a gift card,” she said.
Entry in the fork pull is $20; the minimum restaurant gift card value is also $20, so people will get their money back ... and then more.
“Some (gift cards) go into the hundreds of dollars; we have some very generous restaurants supporting us with their gift cards,” Crowley said.
Tickets are $40 for adults and $25 for youth and are available online at: www.boernetheatre. org/hill-countrys-got-talent.
