Some Boerne Utilities customers will see changes to their monthly utility bills following recent rate adjustments approved by the City Council.
The updates include increases to water, wastewater and reclaimed water services, with a 7 percent base rate increase for all water customers. The new rates took effect Oct. 1.
The updated rates remain significantly lower than other Texas communities, according to the most current water fee survey published by the Texas Municipal League which shows Boerne utilities customers water rates are 28.5 percent lower than other similar-sized communities.
City officials encourage customers to use water conservation measures, which can be the most effective way to control monthly utility costs.
Since 2024, the city has implemented several water conservation rebates, including incentives for rainwater harvesting, irrigation system consultations, and rain/freeze sensors. The Boerne Utilities website also provides information on native and drought-resistant landscaping to help residents conserve water.
As of fall 2025, Boerne Utilities serves approximately 8,700 water customers, 1,400 reclaimed water customers and 7,800 wastewater customers.
Boerne proactively manages its utility systems to keep rate increases to a minimum. The updated rates allow the utility to meet rising operating costs, fund capital improvements and maintain compliance with utility financial policies.
