The Patrick Heath Library is taking literature to the lanes with a new bookmobile.

Starting in January, the book mid- October, is fitted with bookshelves, a mobile cart, a television monitor with a projector and a retractable awning.

Illustrations on the vehicle depict some of Boerne’s landmarks, including the gazebo in Main Plaza and a windmill that pays tribute to The Bookshop Under the Windmill, operated by the nonprofit Friends of the Boerne Public Library.

“Our goal is to make the library accessible to everyone and meet them where they are,” Library Director Natalie Shults said in a prepared news release. “The bookmobile will help us deliver excellence with every interaction and ensure that our neighbors across Boerne can experience the joy of reading and learning.”

The vehicle also augments existing outreach programs with equipment to support interactive programming and education.

Surveys conducted during the Boerne Boo! event 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the library will help develop future routes for the bookmobile.

“This project aligns so well with our role at the city of Boerne,” City Manager Ben Thatcher said in the release. “It’s about service, innovation and excellence by bringing resources directly to residents, building relationships and ensuring that Boerne continues to be a community where opportunity and access are within reach for everyone.”
