Patrick Heath Public Library turned festive Nov. 1, celebrating Dia de los Muertos, “Day of the Dead,” with food, music and remembrance.
Dozens attended, gathering to pay respects and remember friends and family members who have died. The library constructed an “ofrenda,” an altar containing photos of “dearly departed,” dropped off for use on the library table.
A mariachi band played songs all day, while face painting and a serving line offered tamales, a traditional Dia de los Muertos food. A local author and illustrator read excerpts from several of his books dealing with topics surrounding Dia de los Muertos and similar tradition.
