Boerne Champion won its first two girls basketball games to start the year at 2-0. The Lady Chargers are entered in the Rouse Tournament this weekend as they continue their season.
On Tuesday, the Lady Chargers hosted Harlandale for their 2025 home opener and defeated the Lady Indians. Before that, Champion opened their season on the road at San Antonio Christian last week.
Vs. Harlandale
Champion defeated the Lady Indians by 20 points on Tuesday, 63-43.
The contest at Charger Gym was close at halftime and Champion only held a four-point lead at 27-23.
It was a different story in the second half as the Chargers heated up and outscored the Indians, 36-20.
Champion had a strong third quarter and tallied 18 points and held Harlandale to just 5 points to take a 45-28 lead into the final period.
The Charger kept up the pace and knocked in 18 in the fourth, while the Indians netted 15.
Sage Ramsey led the Chargers in scoring and tallied 17 points and Brielle Burdick was also in double figures by hitting for 13 points, with 9 of those coming in the second half.
Kam Edwards recorded 8, Liz Anderson and Brooke Burk tallied 5 points apiece, while Kylie Baum, Jordyn Davis and Saoirse Ray all finished with 4 points apiece and Lorena Barreiro added 3 points to the win.
Vs. SACS
The Lady Chargers defeated San Antonio Christian by almost 60 points, 77-20.
Champion coach Jason Sanders said he was proud of the team’s defense after they held SACS to 7 points by halftime and 11 points through the first three quarters.
Brielle Burdick led the Chargers with 27 points, Lorena Barreiro added 12 points and Jordyn Davis had 10 points.
Burdick recorded 4 assists, Davis had 3 assists and Saoirse Ray dished out 3 assists, while Kam Edwards and Ray snagged 5 rebounds each, Burdick pulled down 7 boards and Barreiro tallied 6 rebounds.
Also, Sage Ramsey finished with 14 steals, Burdick added 6 steals, while Ray, Barreiro and Davis all added 3 steals to their totals.
