Naming rights could be yours as county asks for help naming its Blanco building
Ever drive by a building and wonder, “How’d that place get its name?” Well, here’s your chance to apply a name to one of the more historic buildings in Boerne.
Kendall County is inviting residents, employees and elected officials to share ideas for naming one of the County’s facilities — the newly renovated building at 400 Blanco Road.
Longtime residents will remember the building — beside the now-vacant old City Hall building — as the former Boerne Public Library, later serving as the Boerne Police Department and, most recently, the city engineering offices.
The County purchased the property in August 2023 and moved in about a month ago following updates and renovations.
The building currently holds offices for county commissioners for Precinct 2 (Andra Wisian) and 4 (Chad Carpenter), as well as the fire marshal’s office, the office of emergency management, the county engineer’s office and the county’s IT department.
“This is our county’s building,” Wisian said. “We want a name that feels like it belongs to all of Kendall County, so we’re including all interested citizens to participate.”
Before it ever housed city offices, the building had its start as the home of Boerne’s first public library in the early 1950s.
In the fall of 1951, local Grange members — including longtime teacher and community leader Mrs. A. J. Theis — petitioned the city to provide space so volunteers could build and operate a public library.
“This is our county’s building,” Wisian said. “We want a name that feels like it belongs to all of Kendall County, so we’re including all interested citizens to participate.”
