WHERE BOERNE EATS: A CLOSER LOOK
Passing scores for 3 eateries
EDITOR’S NOTE: The Boerne Star meets twice monthly with Kendall County Health Inspector Brenda Bell and her staff, to bring us our newest feature, “Where Boerne Eats: A Closer Look.”
Kendall County Health Inspector David Sueltenfuss continues to hit the streets and keep local eateries in compliance.
Recently, he stopped by three Boerne Asian-themed eateries, and each one earned a passing score despite a few bumps along the way.
China Bowl, 1361 S. Main St., Suite 301
This Asian eatery offers lunch specials for popular dishes, including sweet-andsour chicken, lemon chicken, kung pao chicken and Mongolian beef. During the inspection, Sueltenfuss found a container of ground beef that had to be discarded because it was stored at an inappropriate temperature. All foods must be cooled at 41 degrees, according to health guidelines.
In addition, he noted a residual sanitizer was missing for the final rinse of the automatic dishwasher, opened foods in the chest freezer not marked with a date, a torn back-screen door and worn wall tiles behind the fryer exposing a large hole in the wall. The staff cleaned the noted areas, and orders were placed to repair the dishwasher and fix the hole.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Score: 90
Lung Fung, 1004 N. Main St.
Lung Fung is a Chinese restaurant with vegetarian options, along with lo mein dinner portions, noodle soups, egg foo young and family meals. During his inspection, Sueltenfuss knocked off points for several foods stored above 41 degrees that had to be tossed out.
The hot foods on the buffet registered below 135 degrees and required reheating. Next to the employees’ hand sink, Sueltenfuss found uncovered sliced vegetables and a four-door cooler above 41 degrees. Also in the cooler were several undated foods, rusted shelves, a torn gasket in one of the freezers and a dead roach by the hand sink. Points were also taken off for the floor by the sink being unclean, as well as the bottoms of several coolers.
The employees made immediate corrections to bring the restaurant back into compliance, according to officials.
Hours: 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 5-8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon-2:30 p.m., 5 -8:30 p.m. Saturday, and closed Sundays.
Score: 82
Love Thai, 109 Waterview Parkway, Suite 101
At Love Thai, customers can order pad thai, pad see ew, orange chicken and other popular Thai dishes. During the health inspection, Sueltenfuss found three issues the staff worked to correct: No date marks for freeze and thaw dates on several foods, the floor behind the grease trap was unclean, and live roaches were spotted inside the business.
Sueltenfuss tasked the eatery with maintaining pest control and noted a quick response from the staff.
Hours: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., 5-8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closed Sundays.
Score: 93 All inspections are part of the public record.
