BUDA - Rouse captured Game 1 against Boerne Champion for the early series lead Wednesday at Buda Johnson.

The Raiders tallied 2 runs in the second inning and it was enough to beat the Chargers 2-1.

Champion took the early lead after Cal Isley scored in the first inning on a Jaedyn Yamaguchi hit for the 1-0 lead but Rouse answered with 2 in the second and it stayed there after neither team scored after the second.

The Chargers had the tying run on third base in the top of the seventh but the runner came too far off the bag and was caught in a run down and eventually tagged out to end the game.

Ethan Coleman pitched well enough to win after he only gave up 2 hits and struck out 6. Rouse pitcher Jacob Sainz went all seven innings and scattered 4 hits but picked up the win to stay unbeaten this year at 10-0.

Game 2 is Friday in Buda, 7 p.m., and a third game if needed, will be Saturday.
