Disregard for taxpayers

Editor, Surely the majority of us understand that decisions made by our government leaders affect our state and even our own community. We are certainly seeing the adverse effects of those decisions right now, especially for many seniors and families living on very tight or fixed budgets.

The national inflation rate has jumped to an annual rate of 4.2% in May and is the third consecutive monthly increase since Trump declared war on Iran, reaching a three-year high.

Grocery prices continue to rise alarmingly and even milk prices are now over $4 a gallon at our local H-E-B.

As school is now out and kids are home, that puts even more strain on food budgets for many households during the summer.

We all have a legitimate interest in food and economic security and that is no less true for families and our senior citizens. To add to our alarm in the horrifying news headline today; “I love the inflation. No, I love it. The numbers were great,” declared President Trump.

The antipathy of that statement from the “leader” of our country was unconscionable. It was neither a rational nor a respectful comment, and willfully ignorant of the insecure economy negatively affecting the majority of Americans. It dishonors us all.

We deserve better and we should never abandon the fact that we are a government “of the people, by the people, for the people.” It’s your right to voice your concerns over the unmeritorious decisions being made by our government.

Please consider calling or writing your representatives today to express your concerns: https:// wrm.capitol.texas.gov/home.
