Pratt named Art League Artist of the Month

Artist Edward Hopper once said, “If you could say it in words, there would be no need to paint.” The first time Bitsy Pratt understood art as a way to express ideas and narratives, she was standing in front of the Mexican muralists in Mexico City.

That early exposure 40-plus years ago opened her eyes to other artists, among them Fernando Botero, John Singer Sargent and, recently, Trevor Chamberlain, Andy Evansen, Mary Whyte and Gary Tucker, most of whom are watercolorists.

Pratt’s study with some of these artists helped her develop her visual voice Pratt has been selected by the Boerne Art League as its “Artist of the Month” for September.

Pratt has been an avid painter for over 40 years. She draws and paints in watercolors. She now enjoys retirement with friends, lazy days with her husband, and painting. Pratt wants to thank her art community, teachers, supporters and collectors.

A selection of Pratt’s paintings can be viewed all month long at a selection of Boerne Main Street banks, and The Kronkosky Center.

Carriage House Art Gallery: ‘Best Of The Best’ in Boerne

The Carriage House Art Gallery was recently honored as “Best of the Best Art Gallery” in Boerne for 2026, according to the Boerne Star’s annual competition. The gallery has received this cherished award several other times in its 23-year history.

The 14 Hill Country artists who show work there, operate the gallery together. Wednesday through Sunday, you will find one of the member artists there. There, to help you learn about their fellow artists and their art. This personal, informed touch is what sets it apart from any other art gallery in the Hill Country.

We in the art community encourage you to visit soon. They are located at 110 Rosewood Ave. in downtown Boerne, one block off Main. If you do, we are sure you will agree with those who voted Carriage House Gallery “Best of the Best.”

And this is the perfect time to take advantage of the “Sizzlin’ Summer Sale” through Labor Day. The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
