Greyhounds finish second at district swim meet

Boerne High competed at the District 15-4A swim meet last week in San Antonio and the Greyhound boys and girls teams both finished second.

Great Hearts Monte Vista won the boys and girls team titles and also took first in the combined team standings, while the Greyhounds were second in all three categories.

The Lady Hounds tallied 132 points and the BHS boys scored 106.5 for a combined score of 238.5 points. Great Hearts scored 308.5 combined (165.5 girls 143 boys).

Overall, Boerne won 5 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze medals at the event and a total of 14 move on to regionals set for Feb. 2-3.

Cole, Great Hearts Northern Oaks and Randolph went 3-4-5 in the team standings.

RESULTS BHS girls (Top 8)

The Lady Hounds won the 200-medley relay with a 1:58 for one of their two gold medals at the meet, while the 200-free relay was also 1st after recording a 1:49. Also, the 400-free relay came in 2nd with a time of 4:10.61.

Karen Gray was 3rd in the 200 free in 2:19, Mary Rich placed 5th in 2:35, Brooke Sachs was 6th in 2:39 and Isabel Rylander placed 7th in 2:48 to all score team points.

Sarah Heilesen took 3rd in the 200 IM with a 2:24, Brinley Robinson came in 2nd in the 50, Lauren Summers placed 6th in 27.07 and Michelle Mendoza clocked in at 28.07.

Brenna McCarty was 6th in the 100 fly with a time of 1:07 and Sarah Heilesen was one spot back in 7th at 1:08.

Ella Parsons finished 4th in the 100 free with a 59.95 and Michelle Mendoza was 6th at 1:02.75.

Karen Gray posted a 6:03 in the 500 free for 2nd and Sadie Smurr clocked in at 6:49 for 5th, while Mary Rich took 7th in 7:09.

Brinley Robinson placed 5th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07 and Brenna McCarty was 5th in 1:09.

In the 100 breaststroke, Ella Parsons posted a 1:13 for 2nd, Lauren Summers came in 3rd at 1:16 and Bella McCarty was 8th in 1:27.

Boys (Top 8)

The boys were 1st in the 200-medley relay in a time of 1:47, the 200-free relay was also 1st in 1:37 and the Hounds were 3rd in the 400-free relay with a time of 3:57.

Isaac Martin Johnson placed 5th in the 200 free after clocking in at 2:10 and Zachary Pyle was 8th at 2:24.

Cooper Wagner claimed an individual gold after he won the 50 free in a time of 22.85, Cole Grotjohn was 3rd in 24.20 and Michael Villarreal was 6th in 25.12.

Wagner also came in 2nd in the 100 fly after posting a 56.93, while Cannon Kunz was 5th in the race at 1:12.

Carter Schuessler, Isaac Martin Johnson and Tristan Wood were 6-7-8 in the 100 free after Schuessler clocked in at 57.08, Martin Johnson came in at 58.33 and Wood recorded a 59.07. Schuessler scored 4 team points after he was 5th in the 100 back with a time of 1:06, while Tristan Wood tied for 7th in the event with a 1:07.

Cole Grotjohn finished 2nd in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04, Michael Villarreal was 5th in 1:16 and Cannon Kunz came in 7th at 1:18.

NOTES: The Greyhounds and the Chargers were at the NISD Winter Invite held Jan. 13. The Champion district meet was held Friday at Southwest ISD Aquatics Center.
