Susan Baker Logrbrinck is a textile artist who loves vivid colors and striking designs.
She received her bachelor’s degree in theatre from Texas Women’s University, and her master’s degree in fine arts for scenic design for theater, television and film from San Diego State University.
Logrbrinck spent many years as a set designer, scenic artist and a mural artist in residential and commercial spaces. She has been sewing since she was a child and started experimenting with quilting simply as a hobby.
Logrbrinck said she became fascinated with the idea she could take traditional techniques and, similar to painting, create beautiful works of art.
“Quilting was once seen as women’s work and therefore not valued in the fine art world that was largely male dominated for centuries,” she said. “I use many of these quilting techniques to create dramatic works of art, full of detail and subtlety that give depth, making the viewer want to stop and spend time searching out the many nuances of the piece.”
She said she draws inspiration from her own life experiences and observations, and from nature with an emphasis on native animals and plants.
We encourage you to view more of Logrbrinck’s artwork and to read her blog, www.susanbakerart. com, for a better understanding of this creative soul.

“I have always had a love for the outdoors and hold a special reverence for trees,” he said. “I experiment with the medium of printmaking to produce semi-abstract landscape trees ... using different materials, I search for a print that has an organic, natural looking design that is strong and rich in value.”
Martin will be doing a demonstration of his en plein air techniques, from 4-7 p.m. Feb. 3 at the Artists Reception, so join the Artists of Carriage House for an evening of fine art and friends.
