Comfort snapped its two-game district streak in baseball after the Bobcats defeated Brady Thursday at home thanks to a big inning, 11-6.
The Bobcats are 2-2 in district and 13-5 overall. They closed out the first round early this week against Llano and open the second round Friday at Florence.
Comfort’s big inning last Thursday came in the fourth when they tallied 6 runs to take the lead for good.
The Cats were trailing 4-3 when the game went to the bottom of the fourth. The first CHS batter in the inning struck out but the next three reached to load the bases. A wild pitch, 2 singles, 2 walks and 2 errors later and Comfort was leading 9-4.
Comfort added 2 more runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead by a touchdown, 11-4. Brady tried to rally in the sixth and hit three straight singles and eventually scored 2 runs and the lead was down to 11-6, but that’s as close as the Bulldogs came.
They went down in the seventh in order with three straight strikeouts by reliever Mason Matter.
Brady outhit the Cats, 9-6, but also committed four errors and had that one bad inning.
Half of Comfort’s 6 hits went for extra bases after Micah Nye and Mason West both tripled and Matter doubled. Nye also picked up an RBI and scored a run and West walked and scored 3 runs.
Mason Matt hit 2 singles, scored 2 runs and collected 4 RBI. Luke Bohnert scored a run, Tucker Rust singled and drove in a run, while Noah Bohnert and Evan Valadez both scored 1 run each.
Zach Jones went 5.2 innings on the mound and picked up the win. He gave up 10 hits, 3 earned runs, 2 walks and sat down 3.
Matter closed it out and threw the final 1.1 frames. He didn’t give up a hit, walk or run and struck out 3 batters.
