Geneva wants to keep momentum rolling in 2024

After going two rounds deep into the 2023 playoffs and winning a TAPPS 7 on 7 state championship in the offseason, the Geneva School of Boerne football team is looking to build off those accomplishments as they head into the 2024 season.

Second-year Eagles coach Grant Gaston said the goal is to keep the train rolling but knows each year presents unique challenges.

“Every season is different and every team is different,” he said. “The guys in the program have now seen what can be accomplished and they are already all-in on the culture and even improving the foundation of our culture that was established last year. We have a great group of players.”

Gaston said they had such a good calendar year because the players believed in what they were doing.

“There is so much to be proud of, but one thing that stands out is how quickly our team gelled and how willing they were to buy-in to our purpose and they truly exhibited our Fight-Finish-Love mentality,” he said.

A look at the team

Geneva graduated some quality seniors and will have to replace starting quarterback Jacob Rosenstiel, who signed to play in college.

Gaston describes the team as young and is looking for players to step into leadership roles.

“We are a young team this year, so our goals are to get better each week so we can be our best at the end of the season. We want to be our best in the fourth quarter of each game and we want to be our best at the last stages of the season,” he said. “It's been great watching players of all age groups step up and take on leadership roles and fearlessly step into the arena. It seems like each practice a new player steps up and shows flashes of just how good he will be.”

Players to watch according to Texas Football magazine are Reid Wilson, Caleb Quitadamo, Brady Chandler, Luke Brunsvold, Noah Brunsvold, Griffin Miller, Reid Aderholt, Caleb Baggs, Jackson Mitchell, Jax Riddle, Grant Morgan, Mason Sutton, Bryce Hanover and Austin Hodo.

Quitadamo will likely be the new starting QB but Gaston said they have several players capable of playing that spot.

“We are blessed to have several young quarterback prospects, all of whom can step in immediately and start games for us,” he said. “The 7 on 7 work this summer really helped to get quarterbacks and receivers ready to step in when called on.”

The Eagles offense received a boost when basketball player Wyatt Bruss decided to go out for football his senior year.

“We are thrilled that Wyatt Bruss, a standout basketball player here at Geneva, is playing with us this season,” Gaston said. “His poise, leadership and athleticism stand out for sure.”

A look at the district

Geneva is in a district with Holy Cross, Schertz John Paul II, Austin Hill Country, New Braunfels Christian and Corpus Christi John Paul II.

The Eagles are picked to finish second behind perennial district power Holy Cross.

“It's a tough district with excellent coaches and several schools on the upswing,” Gaston said. “I expect it to be a very competitive district and the teams that emerge as playoff teams will have earned the right to represent our district and compete in the playoffs.”
