BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

Texas Treasures Fine Art Gallery

Johny Rosa enjoys his space along North Main Street. As do his customers. And his artists.

“The feedback is wonderful. They’ve loved the lighting, the intimacy, the fact that it looks like Texas,” Rosa said of Texas Treasures Fine Art Gallery at 265 North Main.

After several years at his shop in Bergheim, Rosa made the move back into Boerne, back onto Main.

“I saw this space, and began renting it in May, renovated it for two months and we opened July 12 with our grand opening,” he said.

The building is older, homey, with a “lived-in” feel; “I think the people that come in here really appreciate the vibe,” he said.

The move was an enormous downsize — from the 4,000 square feet of the vast Bergheim art gallery to the 1,100 square feet on North Main, across the Hill Country Mile from the Boerne Visitors Center.

“The main part of this building is the service we provide to the town, which is framing. For the most part, this is my frame shop with highlights of great art, museum quality art,” he said.

The various walls and displays at the Bergheim location were stocked with art, floor to ceiling. Where is it all now?

“We have three storage units filled with art. This is the frame shop that gives a sample of what we carry,” he explained.

Rosa hired a media director to record what they have available, creating an online digital catalog to showcase all the art he has in his collection.

Rosa recognizes some people prefer digital, for its convenience, “but some don’t. Therefore, it’s always important to have something that people can physically lay eyes on.”

“Someone expecting to spend $27,000 .... $35,000 on a piece is not going to be satisfied buying it over the internet. They’ll want to see it, sense it, get a taste of it, right here,” he said.

Texas Treasures work with artists known locally, nationally, internationally. When first opening in July, Rosa had a roster of about 30 artists that he said he works closely with that he represents.

“My hopes would be that this continues on Main Street as a frame shop with a small sample of what we carry and what we’re known for. An art gallery of this caliber truly is a service in the community.”

The storefront, advertising custom framing and fine art, seems more a home from the 1890s than an art studio in the 2020s — which is just the way Rosa and his customers like it.
