Whenever Boerne High plays Wimberley in most sports it’s usually a good match up and Tuesday’s district girls basketball game between the Lady Greyhounds and Lady Texans started out that way.
Wimberley hung with the Lady Hounds for about a quarter, but after that it was all Boerne. The Texans scored 19 points in the first quarter, but then only managed 10 points in the final three stanzas as BHS went on to whip Wimberley by 63 points, 92-29.
No. 3 ranked Boerne (TABC) improves to 21-1 overall and remains perfect in district play at 3-0. They visited Navarro on Friday and host Canyon Lake Tuesday before a showdown with Fredericksburg next Friday on the road.
The Battlin’ Billies are one spot ahead of the Lady Hounds in the rankings and came in at No. 2 this week at 22-2.
Boerne’s defense played well as they limited the Texans to 5 points in the second, 3 in the third and 2 in the fourth.
Boerne was up 41-24 at the break and then outscored Wimberley in the second half, 51-5. The lead ballooned to 40 points, then 50, then 60 before the game ended with Boerne’s biggest advantage of the night at 63 with 2:09 left. Neither team scored in the final two minutes.
Jamie Ruede had the hot hand early and drained three 3s in the first on her way to 15 first-quarter points. Ruede added three more 3s in the second and tallied 12 in the period for 27 first-half points behind the strength of six 3s. She finished with 34 points.
Averi Aaron netted 22 points in the game with 14 coming in the third quarter. Averi even knocked in a 3 in the second half.
Savannah Salinas hit three 3s and tallied 13 points, Jenna Ruede made a pair of 3s and had 8 points, Abby Smith sank a 3 and chipped in with 11 points as the Lady Hounds recorded 13 3-pointers.
Liz Fox and Sushanna Cobb both added 2 points apiece.
