Senator Nelson appointed to Texas Secretary of State AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today appointed Senator Jane Nelson as the 115thSecretary of State for Texas. The Secretary of State serves as Chief Election Officer for Texas, assisting county election officials and ensuring the uniform application and interpretation of election laws throughout Texas. The Office of the Secretary of State also provides a repository for official business and commercial records required to be filed with the Office. The Secretary publishes government rules and regulations and commissions notaries public. The Secretary also serves as keeper of the state seal and attestor to the Governor’s signature on official documents. 01/08/2023 12:00 AM

Well, sadly we missed the Mars occultation by the Moon Dec. 7 and the Geminids meteor shower on Dec. 14. At least, from my house, it was cloudy both nights. I actually got to see a few moments of Mars and the Moon quite close together on the 7th, but it was fleeting. During the Christmas season, I was in conversations where the topic of Jesus and politics came up. At first, it was an uncomfortable place, and my initial reaction was, really? Can’t we enjoy the season without involving politics? However, the idea, the concept of Jesus related to politics, or vice versa, intrigued me enough to consider if there was a deeper and perhaps indeed a contemporary meaning, because ultimately, it seems to me, the deepest issues facing humanity are spiritual in nature and will require spiritual solutions. 01/08/2023 12:00 AM
