Officers make arrest in downtown vandalism

Boerne police Tuesday arrested a 52-year-old woman they say is linked to a recent spate of vandalism involving broken windows at downtown businesses.

Claire Breitzeutz is charged with three counts of criminal mischief over $2,500-below $30,000. She remained Friday in the Kendall County Detention Center on a $155,000 bond.

From Oct. 31 to Nov. 4, downtown merchants filed reports of windows being shattered overnight.

The first incident took place Oct. 31 at Bear Moon Bakery in the 400 block of South Main Street.

On Sunday, Nov. 2, police received additional reports of similar damage at The Creek restaurant, located within a block of Bear Moon. An officer Tuesday patrolling near Main Plaza — who recognized a woman from previous “mental-health contacts,” according to a city news release — noticed new damage to windows at the bakery.

Detectives reviewed surveillance footage from two separate locations and identified the woman encountered by the patrol officer as a suspect in both incidents.

Similar damage at Kelani Yogurt in the same vicinity is not related to the case, officers said.
