22 CELEBRATING THE ARTS

Enjoy Memorial Day Weekend in the heart of Boerne at the 14th annual Hill Country Art and Wine festival, formerly our beloved “Art Waddle.”

On Friday, May 22, 4-8 p.m., a ticketed preview event on Boerne’s Main Plaza is an elevated evening reception featuring wineries from across Texas, live jazz, fine art and a curated auction experience.

This intimate preview sets the tone for the weekend, offering guests the opportunity to sip, collect and connect in a relaxed yet refined atmosphere.

On Saturday, May 23, it’s “Mimosas on Main” from 10 a.m. to noon. A ticketed morning gathering; begin your festival morning with a relaxed, brunch-style experience at Main Plaza. Proceeds support the arts and student scholarship programming.

Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., brings the full festival experience to Main Plaza. Meet the festival artists and hear their inspirations as you browse their booths, learn a bit about our Texas wineries, enjoy our hand selection of food vendors and live music with students from the Boerne Independent School District Fine Arts Department.

We want to thank local artist Kristy McNelly for creating this year’s Art Poster, “Art of the Pour.”

“Painting with oils on canvas, I use painterly brush strokes full of vibrant color that I emphasize in my subject,” she said. “My paintings are realistic with an impressionistic vibrancy. I want every color I put on the canvas to be there to help with the composition.

“I use soft edges in the area of the painting where I want less of the viewer’s attention, and use harder edges and more contrast for my center of focus. My warm yellows, oranges and reds go in front of the light — the highlights; while my blues, greens and purples go behind the light -— the shadows.

“My subjects come from my personal photos that I have taken on trips around the country ... I wish to share my love of animals, nature, history and my views of the world with my collectors and those who appreciate my art.” McNelly’s Hill Country Art & Wine Festival image is memorialized in a Limited Edition of 100, signed and numbered poster, and will be available for purchase at the weekend event.

“Movie Night” on March 21 at sundown is presented by HCCA Cinema. Join us at the AgriCultural Museum and Arts Center, 102 City Park Road in Boerne, for the feature film, “Singin’ in the Rain,” the 1952 classic starring Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds.

Come out with family, picnic blankets or chairs, and enjoy a classic under the stars. See future monthly films at www.hccarts.org.
