Strong finish helps Greyhounds beat Lady Mules

Boerne High saved its best for last Tuesday when the Lady Greyhounds visited Alamo Heights for a 26-5A softball game.

After falling behind 4-0 and not scoring through the first four frames, the Lady Hounds came on strong late and outscored the Mules over the final three innings 6-1 to win the contest, 6-5.

Boerne improved to 6-8 in district (15-8 overall) and kept its playoff chances alive. The Greyhounds are off until Tuesday when they host Pieper.

Cerissa Nasis started things off for BHS in the fifth inning last Tuesday. Nasis walked, and then with two outs, Boerne put four straight runners on base. Brooklynn Thomason and Kenley Thomason both doubled, while Riley Partin singled and Addison Reidy reached on an error and it was tied 4-4.

In the sixth, Leni Caldwell doubled to start the inning and later scored on a Tessa Murphy RBI single for Boerne’s first lead of the game, 5-4.

Reidy added to the lead with a leadoff home run in the top of the seventh and it was 6-4, but the Mules still had to bat in the bottom half of the inning.

A single, walk and an RBI ground out pushed in one run for the Mules and made it 6-5 with two outs. Alamo Heights had the tying run at second and the winning run at first, but BHS pitcher Micah Bellamy ended it by catching a line drive hit up the middle. BHS was led at the plate by Reidy, who homered and scored twice, while the Thomason girls both doubled. Caldwell recorded a double and 2 singles and scored once, while Maddie Vasquez knocked out 2 singles.

Bellamy went the distance in the circle and gave up 8 hits, only 1 earned run, 5 walks and sat down 3 batters on 121 pitches.
