Community collaboration provided foundation for the future
FAIR OAKS RANCH — After months of meetings and community input, the City Council Thursday formally adopted a new Strategic Plan, establishing a roadmap for priorities and initiatives over the next five years.
The plan — involving collaboration among residents, stakeholder groups, city staff and elected officials — centers on six priority areas designed to guide policy decisions, financial planning and community development, officials said.
They include:
• Financial stewardship
• Responsible growth management
• Reliable infrastructure
• Public safety
• Operational excellence
• Community engagement
Officials said the plan provides a foundation for future budgeting decisions, including the city’s five-year financial plan and annual budget process.
Though the goals were granted a tentative OK during a council meeting May 7, final adoption came June 4.
“I look forward to working alongside the City Council, our dedicated staff and the community to bring this plan to life and ensure that Fair Oaks Ranch continues to be an exceptional place to call home in the Hill Country,” City Manager Scott Huizenga said in a letter to city leaders.
The plan outlines 19 goals and 47 objectives advancing the city’s vision while maintaining values of community, collaboration and ownership.
In a breakdown provided by the city, financial stewardship focuses on long-range financial planning and sustainable revenue strategies, while responsible-growth management emphasizes adhering to long-term planning efforts and preservation of the city’s character.
Reliable Infrastructure addresses improvements to water and wastewater systems, drainage, roadways and municipal facilities, officials said.
Additional priorities focus on enhancing public-safety services, improving operational efficiency and transparency, and expanding opportunities for participation by residents in local government.
Several initiatives identified in the new Strategic Plan have already been incorporated into the city’s preliminary budget and are underway, city staffers said.
These include an update to the city’s Comprehensive Plan, a water-valve exercising program, a citywide drainage inventory, a facilities master plan, the creation of a citywide safety coordinator position, and the development of a Citizens Leadership Academy.
The new initiative builds on a previous Strategic Plan, which guided municipal operations from 2021 through 2026.
