BOERNE — The Boerne Independent School District has earned statewide recognition as a 20252026 Texas Way District of Distinction.
The honor is awarded through The Texas Way, an initiative created in partnership with the Texas High School Coaches Association, the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association, the University Interscholastic League and 2Words Character Development.
The program was established to promote a higher standard of sportsmanship at high school and junior high athletic events across Texas.
“In Boerne ISD, we believe how you compete matters,” said Kristin Craft, Boerne ISD superintendent. “We want our students to strive for excellence, but we also want them to understand the importance of integrity, respect, humility and leadership. Those lessons will stay with them long after the game is over.”
As part of the recognition, Boerne ISD will receive an official “District of Distinction” banner and certificate celebrating the district’s commitment to excellence in sportsmanship and community involvement.
In a prepared release, BISD offi cials said the district received the distinction for excellence in sportsmanship and community involvement, recognizing the district’s intentional work to create a positive culture in athletics and student activities.
“This recognition is a celebration of our students, coaches, families and community,” Craft said.
The Texas Way initiative continues to grow across the state as districts work together to improve the culture surrounding school athletics. According to the organization, the program has contributed to positive momentum across Texas, including reductions in player and coach ejections in many sports and an increased focus on sportsmanship as a shared responsibility among students, coaches, parents and communities.
For Boerne ISD, the recognition reflects the daily work happening throughout the district. Coaches and sponsors are not only developing athletes and competitors, the release stated. They are helping shape young people who understand the value of teamwork, self-discipline, accountability and service, it added.
Whether students are shaking hands after a hard-fought game, cheering for a teammate, showing respect to officials or representing their school in the community, Boerne ISD officials say their commitment to character is visible in moments big and small.
“This award affirms the culture we are building together,” said Stan Leech, Boerne ISD athletic director. “Our coaches work hard to teach students that sportsmanship is not something extra. It is part of who we are. We are proud of our students for the way they represent Boerne ISD and grateful for the families and community members who support that standard.”
Boerne ISD congratulates its student-athletes, coaches, fine arts participants, sponsors, staff, families and community supporters who help make this recognition possible. Together, they continue to show what it means to compete, lead and serve the Texas Way.
