COMFORT — Floodwaters brought the Guadalupe River out of its banks Thursday, reminiscent of the July 4, 2025, torrent that swept through the area.
A National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration graph shows the river peaking at 37.08 feet — more than a half-foot above the 36.5 feet realized last summer.
Thunderstorms brought continued heavy rains Thursday morning before clearing out of the area.

However, the Kendall County Office of Emergency Management said a break in the rain does not mean the flooding threat has ended.
One area death has been reported; a body has been recovered in the Center Point area, according to the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office. Identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. They urged caution crossing any road with standing or moving water and instead advised turning around.
The emergency management office established Comfort High School as a temporary emergency shelter.
The National Weather Service forecasted the Guadalupe River at Comfort to crest near 22.3 fee by the end of the day Thursday.
