McKamie among top government lawyers in state
SAN ANTONIO — Boerne city attorney William M. “Mick” McKamie has been named Outstanding Government Lawyer by a branch of the State Bar of Texas, according to a release.
The Government Law Section of the State Bar presented McKamie with the award July 30 at the Advanced Government Law Course in San Antonio, the section’s annual continuing legal education program for lawyers who represent cities, counties, school districts and other public entities.
McKamie, Boerne’s full-time city attorney for the past five years, also serves as counsel for Amarillo, as special counsel to Gillespie County, and as city attorney emeritus for Fredericksburg, officials said.
The honor recognizes McKamie “for exemplary service to the profession and the public.” The Outstanding Government Lawyer Award is the section’s highest individual honor.
McKamie, a senior partner in Taylor, Olson, Adkins, Sralla & Elam L.L.P., is board certified in civil trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. With more than 40 years of practice, he has served as city attorney, special counsel and litigation counsel to Texas municipalities, housing authorities and counties.
He has handled more than 60 appellate decisions shaping Texas municipal law, according to the release.
A native of Waco, he is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and of the Texas Tech University School of Law, and he holds a Master of Public Administration from Texas Tech. He is an Army veteran, essayist, the author of the Gus Cordell Series and the Lights Trilogy, and he writes on local government at municipalmonkey.
