Funds go to support families of fallen first responders
Boerne’s sixth annual Tug the Truck event raised $37,000 for the 100 Club of Kendall County.
Held in front of Black Rifle Coffee Co., 101 S. Main St., the Sept. 12 event invited community members and organizations to compete in three categories: Tug the Truck, where teams raced to pull a fire truck 40 feet; Drag the Dummy; and the Police Car Push.
All proceeds benefit the nonprofit organization, which provides financial assistance to Kendall County first responders and their families when needs arise that are not covered through traditional taxpayer-funded support.
This year, 100 Club President Laura Andersen said the organization assisted the family of Kendall County Deputy Carlos Ramirez. He died in the line of duty July 2, 2019, when he was struck by a vehicle during a traffic stop on Interstate 10.
“In June, his oldest child graduated from high school,” Andersen said. “A contingent of KCSO officers traveled to El Paso, where he lives now, to attend his graduation. The 100 Club presented him a check from the savings established for that purpose for almost $12,000.”
Andersen said Ramirez’s other child will also receive a check upon graduation.
Dr. Uzair Mushtaq of Health 210 and Thrive 210, a biohacking and wellness facility and program, said he was proud to sponsor the event.
“We love the community,” Mushtaq said. “We absolutely want our Fire Department, our (emergency medical technicians), our first responders to be highlighted and supported in any way.”
Boerne Community Police Officer Chris Dingman also praised the event and its mission.
“Great turnout,” Dingman said. “We really love the motto and the mission of the 100 Club and everything that they support. I think for everybody, it’s really easy to get behind it.”
