Abbott backs ‘School Choice Sunday’ participation

AUSTIN — Gov. Greg Abbott is calling on Texans who support school choice and a school voucher system to participate in what is being called “School Choice Sunday” on October 15.

During a Sept. 19 tele-townhall with faith leaders from across the state, Abbott urged Texans to voice their support for parent empowerment and expanding education freedom for all Texas students.

“This is one of those unparalleled opportunities when all of us together have the ability to achieve a better state for all families across Texas,” Abbott said. “I believe that every parent can do a better job of raising their children if they are given the power to choose the school that is best for their child.”

Abbott also urged residents to contact their legislators about protecting parents’ fundamental role as the primary decision makers in their child’s education.

“This is one of those unparalleled opportunities when all of us together have the ability to achieve a better state for all families across Texas,” the governor said. “I believe that every parent can do a better job of raising their children if they are given the power to choose the school that is best for their child.”
